Mechanical maintenance works during the 2003 refinery shutdown. Project management, supervision and supply of labour for opening, cleaning, repair, re-painting and re-insulation of vessels, heat exchangers, columns, piping, statutory testing and cold re-commissioning.

Project Description

Working to PetroSA’s scope of turnaround maintenance and inspection work, SA Five were contracted to provide all mechanical services, with the exception of welding repairs, for the refining units.

Significant aspects of the project were:

• A high degree of integration with PetroSA in planning and execution.
• Provision of local employment and BEE initiatives to complement SA Five’s Cape Town based skills.

  - 190 heat exchangers (air cooled / shell & tube)
  - 60 columns/reactors/furnaces
  - 78 drums
  - Re-tray of 2 towers
  - Piping systems and valve re-packing
