| | Scope of Work:
To design, supply, fabricate and erect the Mechanical & Structural Components of a horizontal catenary system to load the pipe on board the “Deep Blue” pipe lay barge. |
Project Description:
Using a 70 ton horizontal bi-caterpillar tensioner to feed the pipe through a horizontal catenary system whilst being reeled on to the “Deep Blue”.
The catenary system is used to deflect the pipe by providing lateral tension using three constant tensioning units (tensioning between 1 – 5 tons) connected to a set of steel trolleys with roller boxes guiding the pipe. A set of free sliding roller boxes on either side of the constant tensioning units were supplied ensuring sufficient support to the pipe. The roller boxes travel at a maximum lateral speed of 60m/min.
SA Five fabricated all of the components in their Cape Town facility at A-Berth – Cape Town Harbour.
