Project Description / Scope of Work:

The Coral Sea operates as a diamond mining vessel off-shore in the Atlantic Ocean. The Treatment Plant has been redesigned to ‘de-bottleneck’ critical areas. This major overhaul, and resultant Scope of Work for SA Five, is for the Fabrication and Trial Assembly of all Structural, Mechanical, Platework and Piping (SMPP) of the new specified modules, as well as the outfitting of all free-issued mechanical equipment (total of approx. 250T).

After successful Trial Assembly and integration of the modules (Comminution, DMS and Recovery) at the workshop, the works further include the partial dis-assembly of the modules, allowing transport and delivery to the Cape Town harbour. There followed the re-assembly, commissioning and hand-over of the modules – ready for lifting on to the vessel in the Sturrock Dry Dock.

In addition to the above, SA Five fabricated various items not forming part of the modules, and to be free-issued to the vessel. These items include deck stiffening, deckhouse and below deck platework, pump bases, strainers, hand railing, grating and piping. Within the scopes of work above, all fabricated steelwork items were required to be protected against corrosion (painting and galvanising) and with platework items to be lined with rubber / ceramics as appropriate.
