Project Description:
The De Beers Marine mv SS Nujoma was berthed in the Sturrock Dry Dock as well as alongside K & L Berth in the Cape Town Harbour for the installation of Capital Improvement Works (1st quarter of 2024). SA Five undertook the ‘Fabrication of Structural, Platework and Piping, Trial Assembly and Delivery of Treatment Plant Sub-assemblies and Modules’ for this vessel; as part of a Sample Rate Improvement Project.
The critical works to be ready for the InPort ‘window’ was the fabrication, trial assembly, dis-assembly and transport to the Port of the Aft Comminution Module. This new Module was designed and engineered to be split into 3 large transportable units to facilitate easier (lower risk) rigging and installation onto the deck of the SS Nujoma.
Other works included the fabrication, corrosion protection and wear lining of various sumps, bins and chutes; together with a significant amount of piping required for installation in different plants of the vessel during the InPort. The works were in mild, carbon and stainless steels. Deck stiffening pedestals were also fabricated for installation. Total fabrication mass was in excess of 130 Ton (excluding piping).
